Four Seasons of Green

Sunday Sermon: With Imagination

"I started with a Dream, but came to a decision..."

How can we judge how far we can go if we do not try?
Four Seasons of Green is about thinking in a completely different way. It is about acknowledging the need for change and actually doing something about it.  That change can be knowing you need help and reaching out for it - and on the other side of that - hearing someone ask for help and providing that support. We are a community that grows stronger by developing relationships within our families, our neighborhoods and our global communities.

Here is your opportunity to decide to start. Think of one issue that touches you. Is it Global Warming? Animal Cruelty? Social Injustice? Religious Conflict? Waste Management? Water? Children's Rights? Poverty?

Now that you have a cause... spend 5 minutes brainstorming about how your actions contribute to the perpetuation of this issue. Write your thoughts down. Select one of the actions you have recorded. How can you transform this action to create a positive impact on yourself and society?

For example...
I read several articles about Nestle's business practices which employ child labour (for Nestle Chocolate), entrap impoverished women to use infant formula (which is mixed with contaminated water and leads to babies dying from diarrhea 2 deaths per minute), and a close to home issue with Nestle bottling Ontario's water and selling it back to us - after depleting and contaminating our resources.-these are only a few of the offenses by Nestle.

How can one person make a difference against a conglomeration the size of Nestle? We joined the boycott over 2 years ago. It is the largest and longest running boycott, and has Global participation.

I encourage you to do your own research. Look at the companies you buy from regularly. Do they use fair trade practices? Do they use slave labour or human trafficking for that product to reach you? What about their environmental standards? How much packaging do they use? Here is a good tip: Buy Local: from a small company you know and trust.

Change is not something that can happen all at once. It is about one small change at a time. Make a choice... make a change. Let that small change settle in, make sure it sticks before you try to make another.
